Review of the Play Animal Farm
On October 8, we watched the theatre play Animal Farm at Scenoteka in Zagreb. The play is based on the famous novel by George Orwell, which explores themes such as power, corruption, equality and freedom. The story follows a group of farm animals who rebel against their human owner because they want to create a society in which all animals are equal. At first, they believe that their lives will become better. However, the pigs gradually take control and begin to abuse their power. Instead of creating a fair society, they become just as cruel as the humans they once fought against. We enjoyed the play because it presented realistic problems in society through the use of animal characters.
We found this approach interesting because it showed how the behaviour of the animals could represent real people and situations in everyday life. The play also made us think about how power can corrupt individuals and how easily people can be manipulated. We were also impressed by the actors’ performances. It was clear that the actors had rehearsed well and were motivated to present the play in the best possible way. Their effort and dedication helped bring the story to life and communicate its message to the audience.
The only aspect we did not particularly like were the costumes. However, considering that there were not enough actors to represent all the characters, we think the play was performed in a creative and effective way. Despite this limitation, the actors managed to present the story clearly and keep the main message of the original work.
Overall, we enjoyed watching Animal Farm and found it both interesting and thought-provoking. We believe that the play successfully highlights important social issues and encourages the audience to think critically about power, inequality and human behaviour. We would recommend it to others because its message is still relevant in today’s society.
